AJA XXII Opens September 25, 2009

September 25 - November 8, 2009
Opening Reception: Friday, September 25, 2009, 7pm

The spotlight in the George J. Doizaki Gallery turns to the contemporary in the Fall, featuring some of the most innovative Asian American artists in Los Angeles with the JACCC’s annual contemporary art showcase AJA XXII.

Over its 22 years, the carefully curated AJA series has come to be known as one of the most exciting showcases of emerging artists, and this year is no exception. Featuring the work of six contemporary artists including Ichiro Irie, Tomo Isoyama, Gil Kuno, Joe Suzuki, Sayon Syprasoeuth and Sylvia Tan, their unique individual pieces will blend together to make a collective statement announcing to the Los Angeles art scene that these artists have arrived.

The exhibit features diverse media including painting, installation pieces, film and pop culture.

AJA XXII Meeting Notes - 8/29/2009

Opening Reception:
  • Friday, 9/25/09 from 7pm (you can start your private reception at 6pm or so)
  • Bring some food for reception, JACCC will provide wine and utensils
Installation:
  • Coordinate with Kevin to park your cars. You can park in front of JACCC for unloading - enter from Azusa
  • For both installation date and reception date, you can park on the dirt road behind the building - ask Kevin for the parking permit when you get in.
  • Arrange with Kevin for weekend access (9/19 and 9/20), otherwise, galleries will be available for installation starting Monday, 9/21/09.
  • Lighting - finish adjusting the lighting by Noon on FRI, 9/25/09.
List of Works, Bio and Insurance for Your Work (please send Kevin the following):
  • List of works (title, medium, date, dimension)
  • How much you would like to insure each piece
  • Artist Statement
  • One Page Bio
Postcard Printing:
  • Sayon has designed the card. We all pitched in $20.00
  • Sayon to mail the postcard to each artist when ready
  • Leave some stacks at the schools you teach
  • You are responsible for mailing the postcard
Other Marketing Ideas:
  • E-mail Blast - Kevin will send us the JACCC press release when ready. All to use it for email blast.
  • ArtSlant Listing - Tomo has posted the event. Please send Tomo some images and caption info so that he can upload them to the page. http://www.artslant.com/la/events/show/69938-aja-xxii
  • YouTube - video footage from work-in-progress or installation to post on JACCC's YouTube channel and this blog. Please contact Kevin if you are interested.
  • Gallery Talk/Panel Discussion - we could have an informal talk or discussion at the gallery, possibly on some weedends. Please contact Kevin if you are interested.

AJA XXII Exhibit Hours

AJA XXII's opening reception is on Friday, September 25, from 7 p.m. at the JACCC's George J. Doizaki Gallery (the same day as the Battleship Yamato a.k.a. Star Blazers screening on the JACCC plaza from 8:30 p.m.).

Otherwise starting Saturday, September 26 and running through November 8, the gallery hours are:
12 noon-5 p.m. Tuesday - Friday
11 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays
Closed Mondays and Holidays.
